PROFESSIONAL RECRUITERS
Recruitment companies
Recruitment companies can be an excellent source of finding certain types of role in the media sector. However it would be a mistake to overstate their ability to assist in your job search. That’s because from the employer’s perspective, they are an expensive recruitment solution (they generally charge a percentage of the candidate’s starting annual salary when an appointment is made).
So if a company has the time and the money to use a recruitment company, they are by far the most convenient way to find a short-list of qualified candidates. Some companies always use recruiters, others rarely – but it’s rare to find a company that has never had to ‘outsource’ recruitment because every other route has failed.
So in general, recruiters handle roles which are more likely to require specialist knowledge and/or experience that the employer cannot easily find themselves. Which means they are much less likely to be handling ‘entry-level’ or even low-low roles.
That said, with response levels to advertised roles ever increasing, companies are increasingly despairing when they discover 350 applications in their ‘jobs@........’ email account – at which point their may hand the role to a recruiter to make their lives easier.
Recruitment Consultants handle different types of recruitment - up to a certain level of seniority above which Executive Search firms take over.

Specialised recruitment agencies are a driving force in finding the right people for the right job in the media industry. They have access to a broader selection of jobs than usually listed on public boards and support in negotiation of salary and conditions and even post employment support. They can be a big time save on your job hunt. Here are the ones that we highly recommend:
