I’m an experienced presenter, podcast host, producer and reporter, having worked on a range of shows on BBC local, community and student radio.
I present and produce the New Music Show every Thursday from 7-9pm. As I now live in London I had been using Myriad to record my shows from home and have continued to do so during the lockdown restrictions. The New Music Show includes new releases from the last seven days - the Nine Before Nine - and music news. I have excellent relationships with PR agents and local artists and include interviews on the show whenever possible, using Zoom or Skype to record.
I've reported from live events and produced packages for later playout. As the longest-serving presenter at the station I also take the lead on training new volunteers in presenting and production skills as well as in using Myriad.
A ten-episode series of discussion on various topics with the aim of deciding whether they are allowed to pass or confined to Room 1 on 1.
I reported into the Sunday Gold and Treasure programme, conducting live on-air interviews on location. I reacted to listener calls and the direction of the presenter and producers, going to locations as suggested by the clues we had been given. The reporter role required thinking on my feet and adapting to last-minute information and changes.
I also reported into Drivetime at short notice in response to sudden events or breaking news.
Often working across various shows at once, my main responsibility as a producer was the Afternoon show. I planned and set up shows by researching stories, developing content, pre-interviewing guests and providing notes for show presenters. I was the sole producer of the show and managed all on-air operations and output. I worked closely with the presenter to develop a good working relationship with a high level of trust. I edited audio packages, often to a very tight turnaround and made use of audio clips and treatment during interviews. I wrote all copy and cues for the presenter and managed listener interaction during the show on the phones and across social media. I co-presented features of the show, including the afternoon quiz.
I produced most shows across the schedule, including Breakfast, Mid-Morning, Afternoons, Drivetime, specialist evening shows, sport shows, Weekend Breakfast and Gold and Treasure. Breakfast and Drivetime required immediate responses to breaking news stories, sourcing guests and remaining calm under pressure. Mid-Morning was feature-based and required content-development with a team of producers and carefully sourced guests. Weekend production often required working out of the Birmingham studios and managing output across both stations.
