Broadcast Co-ordinator (News) Panel, RTÉ

RTÉ is Ireland’s national public-service media organisation.  A leader in Irish media, RTÉ provides comprehensive, cost-effective, free-to-air multi-media services to the public in Ireland and interested audiences internationally.

RTÉ Operations is seeking to form a panel to cover absences and short-term vacancies within the News Broadcast Co-ordinator section (NCO).


The NCO assists with the smooth running of all news bulletins and news programmes on air through co-ordinating the running order elements such as graphics, VT inserts etc from pre-production to transmission. This is a challenging support role involving studio support and running order preparation for News programmes.

The role will involve irregular working hours over 7 days therefore full flexibility is an essential requirement.

Reporting to the Manager, Programme Support, the NCO’s main responsibilities include:
 
  • Working with the Editor and Director to prepare and monitor running orders/rundowns for all news bulletins using iNews
  • Attend all news conferences, listening to information exchanges and decisions and applying these to running orders
  • Collate and order name supers and full screen graphics pre-transmission
  • Monitor supers and graphics pre and during transmission for errors – order late changes as required to achieve accuracy on air
  • Operate Content Pilot in studio for news bulletins and news programmes as well as unscheduled and special event news programmes
  • Calculate the overall duration of a bulletin from the run down and time the bulletin during transmission to ensure accurate on-air and off-air transitions
  • Prepare the ISL bulletins for transmission on Cloud UX
  • Use Mediaflex and WON (What’s On Next) to send pre-recorded programmes to transmission
  • Prepare and operate SOCR studio rundown
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • Experience of working in a television studio in a live transmission environment
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills – proficiency in iNews a distinct advantage
  • Knowledge of Cloud UX, WON and Mediaflex is desirable
  • An ability to work to a high standard, often under pressure, operating to strict deadlines
  • Excellent organisational skills with an eye for detail
  • Proficiency in Viz (or other graphic systems) would be an advantage
  • An understanding of how a news division operates and a knowledge of, and interest in, news and current affairs
  • A relevant 3rd level qualification in TV production would also be an advantage

Applicants who are successful in achieving a place on the NCO Panel will be offered casual/irregular fixed-term contract and paid at an appropriate hourly rate on the News Co-ordinator Grade and salary scale from €18.51 to €29.88 gross per hour.  

Future vacancies may be filled from this panel which will last for two years.
