Player Product Manager, RTÉ

RTÉ Player is Ireland’s biggest broadcaster streaming service and is available across all major platforms and devices.

Our goal is to provide a best-in-class live and on-demand streaming service that delivers on our PSM mission and meets the rapidly evolving habits and preferences of Irish audiences.

We are looking for a smart, dynamic Product Manager who is passionate about great TV and delivering a great User Experience to our audience to join our RTÉ Player team.  
Reporting to the Head of RTÉ Player, the RTÉ Player Product Delivery Manager will be responsible for the editorial planning, presentation, discovery, and personalisation of the product across live and on-demand. They will also be key in defining and prioritizing new features, functionality and user experience improvements required to achieve our goals for our audience.

We work in a creative department that is audience and data driven, and our focus is developing and growing a uniquely Irish streaming service for our diverse audiences through collaboration with colleagues across RTÉ.

Responsibilities of the role
Management of the RTÉ Player Product team.  Maintaining key relationships with RTÉ Player Product Delivery team as well as with RTÉ colleagues in Content, Commercial, Marketing, Social, Communications and Distribution, as well as external 3rd party Editorial partners.

Key responsibilities:
  • Defining Content Plans for live and VoD, Audience-focused Curation Strategy, Editorial priorities, Content Discovery, Personalisation and Product Features and Experience
  • Work closely with RTÉ Player Delivery Manager and team to ensure total alignment on Product priorities and objectives
  • Tailored Curation strategy, by platform and audience
  • Build a Product strategy that aligns with the Head of RTÉ Player’s vision for the service and customer needs of RTÉ Player across all platforms
  • Strategy for and run of RTÉ Player Youtube channel
  • Lead the content curation, discovery, and catalogue team to deliver on product KPIs and strategy
  • Own, drive and execute RTÉ Player personalisation strategy to deliver a more relevant streaming experience for users
  • Manage editorial relationship with 3rd party platforms to maximise discoverability of RTÉ content
  • Inform RTÉ Player Product Roadmap annually, using data-informed analysis to map key priorities and improvements required
  • Work with colleagues in Content teams to map and plan big events and forward plans in a shared calendar
  • Manages partner content relationships, strategy, and planning
  • Work closely with colleagues in Distribution, Marketing, Social and Comms to deliver on aligned strategy to meet our goals
  • Deliver detailed plans for Product Delivery team to execute out of hours.
  • Act as liaison with RTÉ Commercial
  • Be a catalyst for collaboration and an excellent communicator
  • Represent the user and champion product innovation both within RTÉ and outside of the company
  • Work closely with data to establish insight that leads to positive outcomes for users
  • Communicate the strategy, product performance and influence stakeholders and cross functional development teams as required
The Key role criteria is as follows:
  • People management experience
  • A passion for great TV and content
  • Excellent and proven editorial judgement
  • Strong understanding of RTÉ’s PSM remit and values and ensuring that everything we do is aligned with that mission
  • In-depth knowledge of VoD platforms, the streaming landscape and audience behaviours.
  • Experience working with complex data
  • Track record leading content projects and events across all genres
  • People management experience
  • Strong track record in defining a user-focused content curation strategy
  • Experience using AI to enhance editorial curation and discovery
  • Strong channel management experience
  • Knowledge of media rights landscape
  • Strong understanding of product UI/UX and content discovery
  • Ability to devise and deliver on a product strategy, optimised for all platforms
  • Strong stakeholder management experience
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience working with consumer-facing digital technology
  • Deep understanding of Irish Media Landscape and ability to identify and utilise audience behaviour and social media trends
  • Proven experience as a Product Manager working closely with consumer-facing digital technology
  • To demonstrate how a Product Strategy is pulled together and communicated
  • A deep appreciation of how online experiences work across all platforms
The post will be offered on the basis of an ongoing employment contract at Manager Grade 3 level.
