RTÉ is Ireland's national public service media organization. A leader in Irish media, RTÉ provides comprehensive, cost-effective, free-to-air multi-media services to the public in Ireland and interested audiences internationally. Since its inception, RTÉ has functioned in a highly competitive environment, where technology has been developing exponentially.

RTÉ Technology are seeking to hire a Software Test Engineer to join our Product Development and Software Engineering team, helping test and deliver some of the most high-profile online products in Ireland; including RTÉ.ie, RTÉ Player, and the RTÉ News app.
 
The Software Test Engineer will be responsible for developing, executing, and maintaining automated/manual test assets to ensure that applications meet the highest possible quality standards.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute the appropriate Test Assets/Automation (plans, cases, scripts etc) to ensure applications conform to requirements and design
  • Technical and functional testing of APIs and Web, Mobile and SmartTV applications
  • Create automation suites/workflows for API’s, Web, SmartTV applications, and databases; maintain and execute existing automation suites, using Selenium with Java and JSON Path
  • Continuously improve test automation frameworks and methodologies
  • Identify, document, and track defects using tracking tools such as Jira or similar platforms
  • Identify, report, and review application issues and defects 
  • Work directly with internal and external development teams to incorporate test strategies throughout the development process
  • Retrieve and analyse client-side (e.g. HTTP requests) and server-side logs to validate conformance to spec and identify functional or performance issues
  • Collaborate with the wider team in developing and evolving RTÉ’s software testing processes and instilling a culture of quality across each stage of development
Requirements
  • A proven track record working in a software testing role, making substantial contributions to the test process for multiple public-facing applications and systems
  • Excellent problem solving and debugging skills, with the ability and inclination to analyse issues in detail and help determine root cause
  • Automation & scripting skills with the ability to create automated tests utilizing standard frameworks & tools
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent work strands across agile sprint and larger project deliveries
  • Experience using Selenium with Java or any other automation tool
  • Postman & Json path for API testing and automation
  • Database automation using JDBC.
  • Strong Understanding of STLC lifecycle
  • Familiarity with source code management tools like GIT
  • Defect Management ensuring bugs are raised, investigated, prioritized, fixed and automated whenever needed
  • Strong technical knowledge across multiple client platforms, ideally including Mobile App, Web, Smart TVs, Set-top Boxes, Chromecast, and other OTT devices

This position will be offered on a full-time ongoing permanent contract basis on the Senior Broadcast Engineer grade and salary scale from €60,795 to €73,609 gross per annum.

This role requires primarily business hours, however, there is a requirement to fulfill planned infrastructure systems maintenance, upgrades etc. outside of normal business hours.  A flexible and collaborative approach to work is therefore essential.
