We have an exciting opportunity for a Director of Strategy & Corporate Development, UKTV to join the Strategy team. 

UKTV and BBCS UK Region is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Strategy and Corporate Development to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for driving the development and execution of our corporate strategy, as well as working with core stakeholders across UKTV and BBC Group to identify and pursue opportunities for growth. The Director of Strategy and Corporate Development will be the senior Strategy representative of the GM Strategy, Insight & Corporate Development and as such will maintain a strong grasp of the UK Region’s business priorities, being able to deputise effectively and engage in senior level debate.

What we would like you to bring to the role
Experience
  • Significant experience in strategy consulting, investment banking, corporate development or a related role within the media industry (preferably digital)
  • Proven track record of successfully leading strategic and corporate development initiatives 
 
Knowledge
  • Deep understanding of the media and digital landscape, including trends, technologies and competitive dynamics
  • Familiarity with strategic frameworks
  • Strong business acumen and financial literacy, with experience in financial modelling and analysis
  • Robust appreciation and experience of data-driven and customer-centric approaches to driving growth

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong leadership and development skills to manage a team and create the environment for them to do their best work
  • Strong interpersonal skills, possessing the confidence to engage, influence and challenge right up to Board level

You will:
  • Manage team members: motivating, engaging and developing them to perform at their best 
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to define and prioritize strategic objectives and activity, providing guidance and support to help business units achieve their goals.
  • Have a deep appreciation of the near and long term strategic priorities of the BBC, taking an active role in shaping  BBCS UK Region activity as a part of it and developing strong relationships with counterparts across the BBC Group.
  • Collaborate with the Directors of Insights and Data to interpret key consumer trends and proactively define business response.
  • Be responsible for the creation and implementation of business-critical measures and metrics to facilitate strategic discussion, planning and decision making.
  • Be the strategy lead within the Digital leadership group, taking ownership of strategy development and directly influencing the direction and sustainable growth of UKTV’s digital footprint.
  • Partner with stakeholders across all areas of the business (UKTV, BBC Studios, BBC Group) to evaluate the feasibility and long-term potential of strategic initiatives.  
  • Be comfortable advising across a breadth of areas (digital, editorial, distribution and advertising) to inform our D2C & B2B routes to market.
  • Take a data driven approach, and work closely with cross functional teams to drive alignment and execution.
  • Prepare and present strategic recommendations and updates to senior management. 
  • Conduct thorough market research and analysis of the competitive and regulatory landscape to identify trends, opportunities and threats in the media industry, and sharing insight regularly with wider business. 
  • Provide on-going objective assessment of existing business activities and re-prioritisation / refocusing as and when necessary
  • Lead the evaluation of potential M&A, partnership and other strategic transactions and play an active role in their execution.
  • Work with the finance team, develop financial models and conduct due diligence to assess the financial viability and strategic fit of potential opportunities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key industry players, including potential partners and advisors
  • Deputise for GM, Strategy Insight & Corporate Development at ELT and other senior forums as required

  • This role reports directly to the General Manager Strategy, Insights & Corporate Development (part of the UK Region Executive Leadership Team)
  • This role leads one of three functions reporting into the General Manager Strategy, Insights & Corporate Development – Strategy, Insights and Data – and will collaborate closely with Directors of Insights and Data to ensure alignment of recommendations
