Sky tech hub in Prague consists of around 100 people and it will be growing in the future. These are mostly developers, video-streaming enthusiasts and experts, with extensive experience across markets, technology, and products working on the Global Streaming Platform. We are collaborating closely with our colleagues in the UK, Portugal and the US.

What is the plot?

At Sky, we're dedicated to creating better—better content, products, and careers. Working in Tech, Product, or Data, we're building what's next and new, from broadband to broadcast and beyond. We innovate and optimize, turning big ideas into loved products and services for our tens of millions of customers across Europe, the US, and Africa. We connect them to a huge portal of content and deliver operational sign-in and digital user management session capabilities at scales unique to big tech companies, all from the heart of Sky.

What role will you play?

Join our new Prague based team and tackle global-scale authentication and digital identity challenges. Every time a customer logs in, your work will be at the forefront.

You’ll be joining a team of 8 skilled software developers dedicated to building scalable web services. Initially, your role will involve strengthening our Java expertise through activities like code reviews, formal knowledge sharing sessions, and pair programming. As we progress, you’ll play a pivotal role in transitioning ownership of existing components and potentially rewriting some of them. If you’re passionate about making a tangible impact in the digital identity landscape, we invite you to join us on this exciting journey.

Your daily tasks:

  • Serve as an expert technical resource for modelling, simulation, and analysis efforts, especially in the context of Java mentorship and development.

  • Apply industry best practices in designing, testing, implementing, and supporting solutions, particularly in areas related to identity management and digital user session capabilities.

  • Ensure solutions meet high standards of quality, security, and compliance, particularly in complex areas involving interweaving services at scales uncommon outside of big tech.

  • Demonstrate flexibility and resilience by thriving in an evolving environment and being receptive to learning and adapting to new technologies and methodologies.

  • Quickly adapt to changes, adjusting work in a positive manner to maintain project timelines and objectives.

  • Act as a mentor in Java, guiding team members through complex coding challenges and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

What skills do you need to play your role well?

  • Strong Java knowledge and experience with other modern technologies such as RPC, RabbitMQ, Kafka, Kubernetes, Grafana, Prometheus, Kibana, Elastic Search, NoSQL databases.

  • Hands on experience in designing, developing and successful deployment of large scale projects from end-to-end.

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering or related field would be preferred.

  • Hands on experience in following the iterative and agile software development lifecycle.

  • Ability to work well not only in your team but also in cross-team environment.

  • Being self-driven and eager to learn.

  • Creative thinking skills and analytical skills, with attention to detail.

  • Fluent English.

What can you expect in return?

  • Working in an international environment on an impactful globally scaled technology with agile approach.

  • Open and healthy working culture where we care about people as much as about stability of the code.

  • Annual bonus based on your performance.

  • Hybrid work, combining working from our office to be closer to the team and working from home.

  • Work life balance thanks to flexible working hours.

  • Generous free day scheme providing 25 days of holidays + 5 days of on-demand leave (sick days).

  • Contribution to Multisport Card or Benefit Card.
