About the Role

We are looking for an IT Systems Lead Engineer to join Timeline’s broadcast engineering team supporting the technical facilities of the BT Sport UHD & HD facility which includes three broadcast studios, ten galleries, a large post-production village, multi-channel MCR and playout operation.

Main Duties

Ensure that the operational needs of BT Sport, production partners and 3rd party shows are met effectively and that the technical requirements of the programmes are achieved by means of innovation and development.

Lead a team of 7 IT professionals who provide windows, VM-Ware, network and systems support in line with service level targets. To technically support the team across the core technical platforms with clear instructions and innovation. To support senior management with project activities and modernisation.

  • To be the technical authority of the entire end to end IT platform & estate

  • Manage the scheduling of the IT team resource, ensuring the business requirements are met, across a number of live broadcasting events

  • Prioritise the daily support workload for staff and IT contractors, and to liaise with vendor support teams to ensure that escalation support is in place for our key technology platforms

  • Work closely with the Head of IT and Information Security, and a team of engineering specialists to design and implement systems and workflows for complex operations

  • Manage IT projects with due consideration for time, budget and the availability of resources

  • Ensure that technical faults are resolved quickly or alternative solutions implemented, so that the broadcast output, studio operation, and media delivery is not impacted

  • Responsible for organising training on our core IT networks, equipment and software, to ensure that we provide a consistent level of high quality service delivery at all times

  • Responsible for implementation of the standards and principles of the information security framework, as set out by the Information Security Manager and Senior Management Team

  • Accountable for the purchase of equipment, support services, software and repairs

  • Ensure that our ticketing system is maintained, updated and operational at all times

  • Control, document and implement configuration changes

  • Maintain and optimise networks and server/desktop infrastructure

This is an office based role working Monday to Friday 09.00 – 17.30.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Extensive professional experience in a similar customer facing IT lead role

  • Training and qualifications in IT (University degree at BSc level preferred) or a significant level of relevant industry experience

  • Expert in Windows Administration preferably MCSE or MCTS certified

  • Expert in Windows management platforms

  • Hands on experience with Linux (RedHat / CentOS)

  • Cisco CCNA certified with strong experience in TCP/IP networking, security and firewalls configurations

  • Windows 2008/2012/2016 Server OS

  • Active Directory/File Sharing/Exchange mail server/Network printing

  • Knowledge of Windows client 7/8/10 OS

  • Experience in Mac OSX Workstations: Maverick and later OS versions and editing applications like Adobe Premier or Avid

  • Centrally managed antivirus solution, such as Kaspersky/SentinelOne

  • Experience of the standards and principles of established frameworks such as ISO27001/9001 would be highly desirable

  • A positive, enthusiastic manner with the ability to react tactfully and with empathy to requests from production staff and clients

  • Excellent trouble shooting and technical issue diagnostic skills

  • Demonstrable skills audit and controls

  • Able to monitor/report on the progress of tasks in a constructive and appropriate manner, and to remain calm under pressure

  • An effective communicator with experience of writing clear documentation for projects, repairs and upgrades

  • Previous experience of file-based broadcast systems and workflows would be a distinct advantage, along with some knowledge of file-based video format technologies

Some previous experience with any of the following IT systems and equipment will be highly regarded:

  • Juniper or Cisco switches and routers

  • SAN Architectures (eg Harmonic MediaGrid, Avid ISIS, Brocade Fiber Channel)

  • Linux/Microsoft Servers

  • Fortinet Security Products

  • VMWare

  • SQL/Oracle Databases

  • Aspera file acceleration services including:

  • Console/Transfer Node

  • Faspex

  • Orchestrator
