 A unique opportunity to join the Production Studios Lighting Team on a Fixed Term Contract, without the normally required experience. Applicants should either have some working lighting knowledge for film, TV or theatre, or an electrical qualification, but most importantly a desire to learn and progress within the industry.

The Lighting Electrician will learn to rig, set and balance lighting to the highest standards, apply best industry practice, and develop strong operational skills to deliver an outstanding service to our clients.

Working with the Lighting Team Leader and Lighting Directors candidates will learn operation and maintenance of lighting systems and equipment both in studio and out on location. Where necessary opportunities will be given to gain the required electrical qualifications with the potential of a permanent role within the team at the end of a Fixed Term Contract.

What you'll do:

  • To ensure studio or location electrical installations are maintained to current standards of electrical safety.
  • To operate lighting consoles to an adequate standard where required.
  • To carry out front line maintenance of the studio lighting facilities and associated systems and ensure that good general housekeeping standards are maintained.
  • To be an active member of the studio team on our productions - rigging, setting, balancing studio/location lighting individually from a prepared plot or under direction.
  • To take ownership of Lighting equipment and control system failures or issues in the working environment and if necessary, raise to relevant parties in a timely fashion, reporting their outcomes to the Team Leader.
  • Strive for high levels of delivery, best process, and Sky behaviours in all operational work. Be flexible, positive and curious - with the ability to embrace change and juggle a broad workload.
  • Ensure Health and Safety policies are adhered to, maintaining up to date documentation. Conduct good occupational health practices and general wellbeing at work by following Sky’s Health & Safety practices.
  • Adhere to Sky’s policies and procedures; report any safety issues to line management; and participate in Sky’s objective to be a safe and balanced workplace.
  • Lead by example, reflecting the Sky values, to build a hard-working, inclusive environment that encourages collaboration and creativity, empowering people to succeed.

What you'll bring:

  • Enthusiastic about learning the role of a lighting electrician in a Studio Broadcast environment.

  • A strong work ethic and a willingness to get involved in all aspects of the business when needed.

Essential skills & experience

  • EITHER Must hold a City & Guilds 2365 Electrical Qualification (or equivalent with 18th Edition), and desired 2391 & BS7909. OR Have experience as a lighting tech on Film, TV or within theatre
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic; able to prioritise a sophisticated workloads and to take on responsibility with minimal direction.
  • Able to meet individual goals, and as part of a collaborative team.
  • An appetite to learn extensively and quickly, with the confidence to ask questions and take opportunities
