JOB PURPOSE

We are looking for an enthusiastic assistant to join our busy Corporate PR team within the Press & Publicity department.  You need to love TV, be extremely media savvy, exceptionally social and digital media literate, have top notch verbal and written communication skills, be super organised – and ready to kick off your career in Corporate PR.

You will work as part of Channel 4’s Corporate PR team, offering the team super-efficient administrative support, while learning the ropes of working within a busy corporate press office for a high-profile and noisy brand.

THE DEPARTMENT 

The Press & Publicity department is responsible for generating and shaping earned press, and media coverage about all aspects of Channel 4.

The department proactively publicises Channel 4's reputation, vision, programmes, content and talent across all print media, digital, TV and radio, consumer and trade publications, and influencers – with the goal of driving audiences, the brand and reputation.

The department is responsible for communicating the effectiveness of Channel 4's delivery against its public service remit and protecting the reputation of the organisation, its individuals and programming.  Press & Publicity handles all media requests for programme information, talent and executive interviews, clips and pictures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide efficient administrative support to the Corporate PR team
  • To deal with general enquiries from journalists quickly
  • Monitor key media and news outlets and social media for industry news and coverage
  • Compile media and social coverage reports from key Corporate PR campaigns for circulation
  • Collate media coverage for monthly Board reports working with the other Press & Publicity Assistants
  • Upload press releases and information to the Digital Press Centre and manage @C4Press Twitter feed
  • Distribute press releases to targeted media and field media enquiries
  • Manage and update PR forward planning systems, events schedules and the crisis communications plan
  • Manage and update media contacts lists
  • Develop excellent relationships with key media and trade journalists
  • Quickly develop a good understanding of the media landscape and the key influencers within it to effectively support the Corporate PR team
     

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • A passion for the media and TV
  • An understanding of Channel 4’s brand, vision and purpose
  • Relevant experience in a busy office environment
  • Experience using the full MS Office suite
  • Experience using and an excellent understanding of key social media platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communications
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • A keen attitude and a willingness to learn
  • Ability to work accurately to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work as part of a close-knit team and independently
  • The ability to cope in a busy environment and be able to prioritise and manage several tasks at once
