We have an exciting opportunity for a Python DevOps Engineer to join the Digital Products, Commercial Team. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver key server-side development projects end to end using python and AWS services 
  • Take stakeholder requirements to architect, build and code new services, selecting and using appropriate AWS features and technologies 
  • Use Python to create APIs and microservices for our consumer products or integrate with third party systems through JSON or XML type feeds where appropriate 
  • Use Python Django to build and maintain our direct to consumer websites 
  • Monitor and pro-actively maintain the infrastructure estate to prevent downtime or errors 
  • Investigate anomalous events using tools like Cloudwatch and Datadog and provide prompt resolutions where required 
  • Interact with teams across the business to provide new tools and features or investigate when issues occur with other business systems such as the broadcast cms 
  • Think cloud-native and serverless for all solutions and consider scalability in everything we do using services like Fargate, ALB Load Balancing, Elastic Beanstalk and Lambda 
  • Create and maintain documentation for our code and systems 
  • Manage code deployments using Chalice for Lambda or CircleCI for CI/CD pipelines 
  • Manage stakeholders, discussing requirements and providing solutions that meet their needs 
  • Research and investigate new technologies and see how they can be applied to either improve services or reduce costs 
  • Produce well formed, understandable code that is commented, unit tested and documented where required 
  • Carry out systematic testing of both your own code and the coding output of the team 
  • Participate in multiple projects concurrently requiring excellent organisation and be adaptable to changing priorities 
  • Develop new, innovative and creative solutions to business and departmental challenges 
  • Harness team spirit across UKTV and collaborate with colleagues across the business, to deliver successful projects and tasks 
  • Promote and display trust to build successful internal relationships 

Knowledge and skills:

  • Has experience of writing software in Python 
  • Has experience in the Django framework or similar 
  • Has some knowledge and experience of AWS services like Lambda and DynamoDB 
  • Understands Docker and how it is used to host applications in containers 
  • Working knowledge of relational and non-relational databases (MySQL, Aurora, Redis) 
  • Understands AWS VPC networking and security systems to protect the data and reputation of the business. 
  • Has solid software engineering practices 
  • Has experience in using Git for source control 
  • Has knowledge of Continuous Integration/Deployment using, for example CircleCI 
  • Is familiar with the unix shell and bash on macs 
  • Is familiar with other common concepts such as cloud computing platforms and host configuration systems
