We have an exciting opportunity for a Product Manager FTC to join the Tech & Ops team. 

It is a truly exciting time to join UKTV as we are embarking on an ambitious multi-year plan to expand UKTV’s position in the UK market. A key component of this is the evolution of our current schedule management product platform and services to set UKTV for future growth.

As a Product Manager for the schedule management upgrade project, your role will be pivotal in driving UKTV’s evolution. We are looking for someone who is passionate about building products, above all has an external focus on the user and how they interact and use these products. The successful candidate will have experience working on digital propositions and ideally Media Asset Management, Scheduling, Rights, Compliance, metadata, infrastructure and SaaS based solutions.

Your focus will be defining and delivering the replacement schedule management product for UKTV. The successful candidate will initially work with a strong focused team to conduct market analysis of suppliers and products. Following selection, they will be pivotal taking ownership of the strategic product design/definition, specify the product roadmap and take ownership of key experience drivers/capabilities across all supported platforms and have responsibility for the strategic direction, prioritisation and delivery of the new platform. The successful candidate will ensure that UKTVs teams and business areas come along on the transformational journey changing a key platform and workflows.

In this role you will get to: 
  • Be a trusted member of the UKTV Technical Products team with a shared belief and desire to take ownership and make products that provide technical and operational functionality to the business in order to meet the business objectives or functional requirements for a specific project.
  • Define and lead the delivery of the product roadmap for UKTV products and its key value streams
  • Have a hands-on ownership role in delivering tactical and strategic product initiatives with key focus on building an integrated Content Supply Chain for UKTV and BBC Studios.

We are looking for someone who has:
  • Experience delivering enterprise products and solutions for a fast-moving multi-platform media organisation
  • Previously delivered technical product platforms combining off the shelf/SAS applications and in house developed services from pre-sales scoping to product launch
  • Experience driving and facilitating operational and technical transformational change in organisations 
  • Strong understanding of broadcasting across linear and non-linear services, especially around scheduling systems and workflows
  • In depth understanding of defining product feature/requirements for products from conception, driving product roadmaps, backlogs and prioritisation
  • An obsession with understanding internal customers’ needs and pain points and striving to deliver better
  • An innate want to take ownership and the responsibility that comes with it
  • Experience managing and delivering solutions as a product across key services and applications of an overall technical and operational infrastructure and supply chain
  • In-depth understanding of Agile processes/principles and working in Agile team

  • Experienced managing product delivery across multiple platforms

  • A Product Manager with experience writing intuitive, accurate and easy to understand user stories, prioritising and managing product backlogs and working collaboratively with design, development and QA 
  • An Agile Product Owner that wants to support their team/squad
  • An analytical thinker that can understand problems and work collaboratively to identify and design the appropriate solutions
  • Technical aptitude: familiarity with different broadcast technologies including scheduling, rights, contracts, linear playout and VOD management with an ability to communicate the same to non-technical audiences
  • At ease working on mainstream product platforms inc. Jira, Confluence, Miro, Craft etc… 
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced agile environment and willing to support the wider team
  • Diplomatic, and a strong negotiator

Key Responsibilities


  • Understand UKTV’s mission, goals and business objectives, supporting delivery of the product strategy  
  • Evangelise the user: they are our primary focus and the basis of our success, in every product consideration/decision and in all communications with internal stakeholders and delivery teams
  • Work closely with the Head of Technical Products to specify, manage and deliver the Technology and Operations overall product roadmap
  • Lead, support and coach a small team of dedicated and SMEs, PMs, Architects and BAs in a matrixed working model
  • Build, manage, update and communicate the 0–18 month detailed Product roadmap for the owned product including budgets and forecasting
  • Actively participate and support, as a Product Manager, all agile ceremonies to provide maximum clarity and value
  • Define and write EPICs, user stories, acceptance criteria ensuring alignment with Product Management briefs/specs and ensure clear understanding across the delivering Agile team   
  • Build, maintain, manage and communicate the status of product backlogs; assess value, prioritising EPICs and user stories including new features, technical debt and feature improvements.
  • Manage all communications in a timely manner with all stakeholders (internal and external) in relation to product development, maintenance, upgrades, issue resolution/status/outages/upgrades/downtime.
  • Manage all processes in relation to product development, maintenance, upgrades, issue resolution/status/outages/upgrades/downtime.
  • Have responsibility for the quality and alignment to briefs/specs of all team output
  • Promote and drive a continuous culture of experimentation, innovation and improvement   
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to support content plans and marketing activities whilst championing user experience
  • Own and manage the relationships with key product suppliers including roadmaps, pricing and licensing 
  • Monitor AWS service and infrastructure usage costs on a monthly basis, identifying unexpected or increased usage costs across AWS and actively working to manage these costs with service owners 
  • Identify and action cost savings that UKTV can take advantage of for third party applications and services across AWS including utilising provisioning services, storage optimisation and utilisation of more cost-effective services
  • Work with finance teams to provide cloud media platform cost and product supplier applications breakdown, forecasting for future usage and budget attribution
  • Provide cost and usage reporting for AWS and key products to various stakeholders within UKTV/BBCS including finance, operational and leadership teams
  • Keep abreast of relevant industry news, key digital and trends from a product perspective
  • Actively participate in the UKTV product community, sharing and re-applying skills and knowledge amongst the team
