Scheme Duration: 36 Months (3 years) – Fixed term contract

Start Date: September 2023

Typical roles following the scheme: Server Engineer, Audio Engineer, Vision Engineer, Post-production Engineer, Broadcast Engineer.

The apprenticeship:

We are excited to be continuing our partnership with Ravensbourne University London to recruit additional Engineering apprentices into our business, who will have the opportunity to work towards a degree in Broadcast and Media Systems Engineering at the same time as gaining invaluable experience across the Broadcasting spectrum. We can offer a unique opportunity in this regard due to the wide variety of projects we work with in the UK and overseas, including Formula-E, Goodwood Festival of speed, I’m a Celebrity, Australian Open and many more!

Our apprentices will be based in London and through a series of Ravensbourne University taught modules and industrial experience we will prepare you as the next generation of Engineering talent into the industry.

Year 1:

In your first year you will develop an excellent theoretical and practical understanding of technical and operational systems and equipment and their use in the fast-moving media industry. Specifically, we will immerse you in our Workshop and Warehouse in order to learn the practical fundamentals of Engineering, where you will rotate through engineering teams responsible for installing, fixing and maintaining our studios and equipment, and will also do placements with other departments working on engineering projects, Outside Broadcast trucks, infrastructure and systems integration. Subjects learned include: audio and video fundamentals, introduction to networking, and business systems.

Year 2:

In your second year you will be placed in our Production Centre in West London where you will work with our Broadcast Engineers to learn how we support our clients and liaise directly with suppliers in a fast-paced Master Control Room environment primarily involved around live sport. You will encounter the different types of technology we deploy and learn how that integrates into a wide range of programming including Studio, Gallery live content delivery and Post Production workflows.

You will then be placed with our Postproduction Engineering teams based in Farnborough where you will learn about editing equipment, Avid and EVS technology, as well as the post-production workflows employed in broadcast TV, film and drama. Subjects learned in this year include electronics, computing, and more advanced networking.

Year 3:

In your final year we will take into account your preferences, strengths and career goals to find you a home in our business that best supports you in achieving your degree and aspirations – and once you have completed your apprenticeship degree, there will be a number of roles you will wish to consider with our business.

Subjects learned in the final year include emerging technologies, and a final major project related to the job.

What we look for:

You’ll love solving problems and seeing how things work. You’ll like having a go at fixing things or designing and building things yourself. We're not looking for work experience but throughout the application process we'll be asking for evidence that shows your passion for technology.

As this is a degree scheme, we need strong academic performance. The minimum academic criteria is around 112 UCAS points (300 if before 2017), including a Maths A level or equivalent qualification and other science or technology subjects, for example, Computer Science, Physics or Electronics, or a BTEC in Engineering with Engineering Maths. We would also expect you to hold a GCSE at Grade 4 (C) or above in English Language and Mathematics. Equivalent qualifications will be accepted.

The successful candidate must, by the start of the employment, have permission to work in the UK. Please note, this vacancy does not meet the minimum salary requirements for a Tier 2 work visa for international applicants.

You also need to be over 18 at time of starting in September 2023.

Application process:

• You will complete an online application which will ask for your academic achievements as well as a copy of your CV.

• We will then hold interviews based on the competencies required to be a successful apprentice.
