About the Role

As a Graduate Broadcast Engineer, you will be working alongside our experienced Master Control Room, Broadcast Engineering Support, Vision Engineering and Broadcast Projects teams to support the expanding technical facilities at the Ealing Broadcast Centre (EBC). The EBC includes three studios, seven production galleries and 24 edit suites along with a 60-rack data centre.

Programme Length

This is an 18 month’ development programme including a secondment to another engineering department, giving you the opportunity to expand your knowledge and develop practical skills for an exciting and rewarding career in broadcast engineering. As a Graduate Trainee, you can expect to put all the theory you have learnt at university into practice within an innovative organisation that will put you at the forefront of new and exciting developments in broadcast technology, preparing you for a long-term career.

Main Duties

Learning and developing your skills whilst participating in our Graduate Programme will involve supporting Broadcast systems and workflows at Ealing Broadcast Centre including the following:

  • Broadcast engineering support of our permanent managed service clients such as ITV Sport and Racecourse Media Group
  • Prepare and configure the Ealing Broadcast Centre facility for numerous ad hoc production projects including Formula 1, Women’s Super League Football, SailGP and Dubai Racing (to name but a few)
  • Fault find and resolve technical issues with broadcast systems such as vision mixers, control systems, routing systems and studio cameras
  • Support the installation, configuration and use of broadcast contribution circuits including both external providers and bespoke connectivity solutions designed by our in-house team
  • Assist the project team in the design and development of new systems and facilities at Ealing Broadcast Centre

You will be working shifts including regular weekend working. Shifts are generally during daytime hours with occasional overnight working dependent on project requirements.

About You

We don’t need you to have worked in a broadcasting or studio environment before but there are some key requirements:

  • Fault finding of issues with technical systems such as broadcast, electronic or IT systems
  • Ability to clearly communicate information in the form of reports, handover documentation and knowledge base contributions
  • Able to interpret and make changes to system information documentation such as system schematics and cable schedules
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and communicate with clients in a professional manner
  • Able to prioritise workload and meet deadlines both individually and as part of a team
  • To be eligible, you should have a strong academic record with a preference for a Broadcast engineering degree or a degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline 

Training

You will hit the ground running, working directly alongside our skilled engineers, getting hands-on experience on studio productions for our major broadcast clients. After a full induction, we will also offer you a mix of internal and external training, and you will have access to your own mentor to support your career development.
