The Truck Guarantee Vision Engineer will run our OB trucks to provide a best-in-class OB service to our partners.

Whilst base preparation will be predominantly at our Watford location, the Truck Guarantee Vision Engineer will be required to travel across the UK and the European continent as required by the projects department.

The Truck Guarantee Vision Engineer will have a keen interest in broadcasting technology and the ability to work effectively with varying groups of people and productions.

Gravity Media’s Engineering department delivers on our customer requirements by ensuring we are at the top of our game with the adoption of new and emerging technologies and ensure client projects are delivered on time and on budget.

Responsibilities:

• Guarantee the smooth running and reliability of our OB trucks and associated equipment, whilst maintaining a professional service to clients.

• Base Preparation & Planning. Planning for jobs, maintenance of equipment during base preparation, ensuring all technical and cabling preparation is to specification and fit for purpose as they leave the depot.

• Configure and set up a wide range of Server, Video, Audio, and computing equipment, covering all disciplines as the senior person responsible for the running of the OB truck.

• Understanding, design and configuration of network control systems. Also, integration of IP networks across Gravity Media’s existing UK telecommunications infrastructure, and into our production centres.

• Integrate tally networks, multiviewers and video switcher, programs include VSM, Aurora & Tallyman.

• Configure video matrix and switchers, manufacturers include Sony, and Grassvalley.

• Identify and resolve faults within live systems with minimal interruption to the program’s production.

• Communicate in a professional manner, directly with production staff to facilitate their production needs.

• Drive high standards in the operation, ensuring the company’s OB trucks and assets are well maintained, clean, well-documented, and problems are resolved quickly and prevented.

• Plan integration with a derig system for jobs of higher specification and facility demands and complexity.

• Where required, collaborate and work as part of a crew to install temporary broadcast systems following technical documentation.

Office Based Requirements:

• Undertake general routine maintenance and planned work.

• Prepare and test equipment prior to its shipping date.

• Work closely with the Assets team to prepare equipment, ensuring it is available to Unit Managers and other people planning jobs around OB’s.

• Assist in the planning of OBs and integration of derigs to fulfil the requirements set by the client.

• Research and source ‘equipment solutions’ to client needs if there is no solution available in stock.

• Assist in the preparation of equipment according to technical project documentation

• Identify and repair faulty equipment.

• Remain up to date with evolving technology and process through continuous self-learning and professional development.

Travel:

This position is based heavily on location which requires a large amount of travel generally around the European continent, predominantly in the UK. Therefore, flexibility and a keen sense of adventure are a key requisite for the position.

ISO:

Contribute to the continual improvement of our management systems to ensure compliance with our legal obligations and maintain certification.

Qualifications:

• A relevant degree level qualification is desirable but not essential.

Competencies:

• Effective time management with an ability to prioritise workload and tasks.

• Key communicator, particularly when working under pressure due to the demanding nature of OB productions and clients.

• Willingness to learn outside your comfort zone and immerse yourself in learning new technologies.

• Punctuality, planning ahead to ensure safe and professional delivery of OB’s.

Experience:

• Previous experience working with outside broadcasting trucks/facilities/equipment.

• Experience of working in networked environments including professional media over IP, such as Dante etc.

• Experience in CAD, Lucid and Visio.

• Project planning and generation of technical documentation.

• An understanding of emerging IP standards and technology.

• Programming of broadcast control systems including - video/audio routing, GPIO and tally systems.

• Flexibility and willingness to travel, including weekends and evenings.
