This post is a permanent/full time role during term time only, working 30 weeks across the year. Working week will be 35 hours.
We are looking for an Assistant Technician to assist the Stores technician and technical team in supporting the academic delivery of the Westminster School of Art and School of Media and Communications production activities (teaching, studios, research, CPD and knowledge exchange activities). This role provides a high quality and customer-focused technical service to staff, students and external clients/users.
You will work in our production equipment stores/kit room, supporting a broad range of moving image and digital media-based courses with a wide range of technical, equipment and administrative support. This includes support for television and film production courses as well as a range of other media based courses requiring camera, grip & lighting and sound recording equipment. The role involves preparing, checking and maintaining small and large equipment packages for student loaning on location and in studio filming/recording. It also requires the ability to demonstrate its use and application. The role involves using SiSo asset management software for recording and tracking the equipment loans. This is a customer facing role requiring a high level of interaction with colleagues and students. The role requires attention to detail in preparing and checking equipment for loaning and equally in checking faults, damage or missing components upon its return to the stores, communicating this to the stores technician/technical team and/or line manager when appropriate.
The role requires a working knowledge of professional video, film and digital cinema cameras, sound recording equipment, lighting/grip equipment and camera support systems. A working knowledge of current information technology hardware/software systems and formats including digital cinema camera workflows is required. Knowledge of ARRI, Blackmagic, Bolex, Canon, Panasonic, Sony camera systems would be advantageous.
The ability of manual handling, lifting and moving of equipment and a knowledge of health and safety practices and implementation is essential.
