Job Description

No Drama, an independent rental house supplying Camera, Grip & Video equipment to the motion picture industry is looking for an experienced Prep Technician to join the Camera Floor team in our very busy Manchester office.

Over the last ten years, No Drama has established itself as a leader in providing tailored camera & grip packages to Commercials, Dramas & Feature productions across the UK. This role is a full time opportunity for a hard-working and organised technical multi-tasker. The successful candidate will report to our Camera Floor Manager and will be responsible for the preparation, first line maintenance, stock control and testing of equipment prior to rental and on check in, post hire.

Alongside day to day preparation & check in of equipment, the role requires professionalism with clients on premises and over the phone and unparalleled customer service to create and maintain long lasting relationships with new and existing clients as well as liaising with our front of house team to ensure our high standards and thorough attention to detail are being met consistently.

Please note this is not a junior position and experience is essential. A minimum of 2 years experience in the world of rentals for commercials, drama & features is preferred.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation, testing and loading of equipment

  • Accurately fault find a wide variety of equipment throughout our inventory

  • Offer problem solving/technical advice on phone/email and in person on set when required

  • Use our in house asset management system to ensure all kit is accurately recorded & tracked at each step of the rental process

  • Work with Camera Floor Manager to develop thorough and robust testing procedures for new kit as & when required

  • Loading & Unloading of equipment

  • Occasional deliveries to & from location

  • Due to the nature of the industry applicants must sometimes be available to work evenings and weekends as the projects demand. There is the potential for short notice call out to support production requirements alongside some evening & weekend work on a rotational basis


Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Basic knowledge of Film & TV Production

  • Well organised dynamic team player. Self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work on your own initiative to meet client and company goals.

  • Understand the importance of attention to detail and communication in the rental environment, monitor your own work to ensure quality

  • Outstanding customer service orientation and willing to go the extra mile. Exhibiting initiative and being proactive on all client or equipment related issues. 

  • Extensive theoretical & working knowledge of No Drama’s rental inventory including cameras, lenses, monitoring, wireless & grip equipment.

  • Willingness to keep abreast of current industry trends as they continue to evolve. Be an innovator, prepared to offer up new solutions to existing problems or ways of working

  • Possess a sense of urgency and a high degree of professionalism.

  • Ability to multitask and respond effectively to ever changing priorities and/or situations often working under pressure to tight deadlines

  • Ability to demonstrate and teach customers functionality of kit if required

  • Be able to talk to people in a variety of roles - adjusting language according to their position.

  • Experience of soldering and basic cable manufacturer and maintenance a plus

  • Computer literate with a technical mindset.

  • Must have a Full UK manual driving license and be comfortable driving our 3.5T vans. We are happy to provide some training for this if the applicant feels they need it.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a permanent full time position subject to a standard probationary period. Our opening hours are 08:00 - 18:00 Monday to Friday and you will work a rotating 37.5hr full time shift within this.

The employee will also be regularly required to lift and maneuver heavy equipment.
