About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic graduate to train for the role of IT Support Engineer. The successful candidate will join the Timeline technology team at the fast-paced BT Sport broadcast facility in Stratford, East London. In this role you will learn how to install, configure and support cutting-edge technology in the following areas of IT:

  • Networking
  • Virtualisation
  • Server and Client architecture
  • Database (Oracle and SQL)
  • Security Threat Management/AV

    Programme Length

    This 18 month' development programme focuses on information technology and systems at one of the UK’s leading sports broadcasters and we will give you the opportunity to expand your knowledge and develop practical skills for an exciting and rewarding career in IT. As a Graduate Trainee with Timeline, you can expect to put all the theory you have learnt at University into practice within an innovative organisation that will put you at the forefront of new and exciting developments in technology, and prepare you for long-term career.

    Key Responsibilities

    Supporting the effective operation of IT systems and workflows at BT Sport, which involves the following:

  • Support of a mixed-vendor network estate, including switches, routers and firewalls.
  • Support of VMWare virtualisation.
  • Support of a mixture of Microsoft/Linux/MAC server estate.
  • Support of desktop/client architecture and supporting services, including Active Directory.
  • Escalating issues and communicating with vendor support as required.
  • Supporting users by preparing operating instructions and communicating changes.
  • Completing routine maintenance and regular system checks.
  • Supporting all IT operations.
  • Evaluating new software and hardware.
  • Ensuring that business documentation and workflows are created and updated.
  • Working as part of a project team on new installations.


    You will hit the ground running, working directly alongside our skilled engineers, getting hands-on experience on projects in outside broadcasts and studio productions for our major broadcast clients. After a full induction, we will also offer you a mix of internal and external training, and you will have access to your own mentor to support your career development.

    About You

    We don’t need you to have worked in a broadcasting or studio environment before but there are some key requirements:

  • Logic, curiosity and exceptional reasoning skills are essential in broadcast environment so you should have a passion for technology and a talent for problem solving. We require knowledge of IT systems and networking, and some hands-on experience of servers and network devices will be highly regarded.
  • Everyone in the team has to deal directly with our clients, so strong written and verbal communication skills are required, as well as confidence in dealing with people at a range of different levels. The ability to work well in a team environment with is essential.
  • To be eligible, you should have a strong academic record and a degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline.

Please note that this is a shift-based role that involving some unsociable hours & weekend work.
