Graduate Sound Engineer - BT Sport

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic graduate to train for the role of Sound Engineer. 

The Sound Engineering team support the technical facilities of the BT Sport UHD & HD facility which includes three broadcast studios, eight galleries, a large post-production village, multi-channel MCR and playout operation. In this role you will install, maintain and support a variety of audio equipment, assist studio productions and some project work.

Programme Length

This is an 18 month’ development programme including secondments to various engineering departments, giving you the opportunity to expand your knowledge and develop practical skills for an exciting and rewarding career in sound engineering. As a Graduate Trainee, you can expect to put all the theory you have learnt at university into practice within an innovative organisation that will put you at the forefront of new and exciting developments in audio technology, preparing you for a long-term career

Development and Learning Expectations / Responsibilities

Learning and developing your skills whilst participating in our Graduate Programme will also involve supporting audio systems and workflows at BT Sport, including the following:

• Monitoring and optimising audio, control and network systems in a broadcast environment
• Assisting in preparation of the facilities for productions
• Assisting staff and freelance engineering teams with rigging and operating equipment for studio shows
• Assisting first line repairs, escalating issues and communicating with senior team members and vendor support as required
• Completing routine maintenance and regular system checks
• Learning the talkback support role
• Being involved in the evaluation of new systems and workflows
• Ensuring that business documentation and workflows are created and updated
• Assisting project teams with new installations

Training

You will hit the ground running, working directly alongside our skilled engineers, getting hands-on experience on studio productions for our major broadcast clients. After a full induction, we will also offer you a mix of internal and external training, and you will have access to your own mentor to support your career development.

About You

We don’t need you to have worked in a broadcasting or studio environment before but there are some key requirements:

• Logic, curiosity and exceptional reasoning skills are essential in any Broadcast systems environment, so you should have a passion for technology and a talent for problem solving
• We require a good knowledge of IT and networking, as well as audio theory (preferably Stereo, Surround Sound, Dolby E & Dolby Atmos), plus the ability to assess audio signals
• Everyone in the team has to deal directly with our clients, so strong written and verbal communication skills are required, as well as confidence in dealing with people at a range of different levels
• The ability to work well in a team environment is essential
• To be eligible, you should have a strong academic record and a degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline

Please note that this is a shift-based role and involves unsociable hours and weekend work
