Job Description

Job description

Primarily based in our Chiswick Production Centre, our Media Operators are responsible for all of the file-based ingest and deliveries across our live programming and production operations.

Set up, check and guarantee all live ingests using EVS IPDirector and/or equivalent tools as the tasks require. Check that all ingests conform to the specifications as indicated on bookings.

Send, backup, transcode, monitor and deliver all files/edits/deliveries as per each individual booking specification using the suite of workflow tools available. Prepare, manage, oversee and run the live streaming operations across all live event bookings as per each individual booking specification.

Where required, deliver live playouts to linear takers for Tier 2, non-network deliveries.

Work in conjunction with our MCR team, who will support the Media Operators technically across all aspects of the digital workflows in place. However, it is still expected that the Media Operators will work individually to achieve all the ingest and delivery requirements each shift. Media Operators will be expected to provide initial troubleshooting of technical issues. Troubleshooting will be supported by the MCR team and by other Senior staff.

Assist the MCR team where required with minor tasks which may include helping with facilities setup, answering and communicating on talkback with internal clients/producers, fielding telephone calls to the main MCR telephone number from external clients when appropriate, and any further duties they may deem suitable.

To facilitate all of the above points, basic video and audio routing operations will be required at times. Full training on this will be provided.

The opportunity will arise for the Media Operators to branch into live EVS LSM operations when they are deemed at the correct capacity to do so. To that end our Media Operators will have the opportunity to learn and train on EVS LSM operations and other technical disciplines on quieter days where ingest, media deliveries and streaming requirements require less of their time.

No specific qualifications are required, but the candidate should be fully computer literate and be able to interpret spreadsheet data and, if necessary, edit and feedback to their Line Manager any errors, changes or improvements.

Good organisational skills and the ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Attention to detail is essential in this role – workflows and automated processes rely heavily on spelling, syntax and naming conventions so the candidate must have an excellent eye for detail and an understanding of the importance of this.

Good interpersonal skills - ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both spoken and written forms is desired. The ability to work under pressure in a live broadcasting environment and within the timeframes specified for each live job is key.

This is a scheduled to requirements role, where the hours are dictated by the workload required – so the candidate should expect that the majority of their hours will be across evenings, weekends, and, on occasion, overnight.

No specific experience is necessary as all training will be provided on the job by the relevant teams. However, any experience with EVS IPDirector is deemed advantageous.
