The Team: Wireless Group is looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking Head of News to manage our National Stations' news & sport bulletins.
Your Role: The role will also encompass running the TV bulletins on talk TV plus co-ordinating the teams across radio & TV, recruiting, and reading bulletins yourself. Based out of London you will work across talkSPORT, talkSPORT 2, Times Radio, talkRADIO / talkTV and Virgin Radio, as well as our on demand briefings and bulletins. You will have fantastic news judgement, an eye for a story, excellent contacts and proven skills leading a team.
Day to day you will: Manage the team of news readers and reporters to deliver high quality bulletins across the network of stations and podcasts. Deal with breaking news in a calm, fast thinking manner to ensure the on air output quickly updates the listeners. Forward plan to give guidance to stations on upcoming stories and events. Be available to read bulletins and provide 2-ways into programmes across the network.
Handle recruitment of news readers
Liaise with stations on upcoming stories
Manage budget and personnel issues.
Monitor bulletin output across radio, TVbroadcast, digital streaming and audio.
What we’re looking for from you:
Experience as a News Editor essential or within a similar role
Be able to coach and develop talent in others
Be able to work calmly effectively under pressure, react quickly, and meet tight deadlines
Be able to manage a small team, including contingent workers
Excellent communication, leadership and delegation skills
Organise staff rotas
Excellent understanding of compliance guidelines and legal parameters.
Deal with breaking news events to coordinate resources across radio and TV.
Work with social media teams to communicate news stories generated from output
Clear understanding on radio craft to be able to shape bulletins to the needs of individual stations.
Strong understanding of news and current affairs plus in sport.
A creative with an eye for detail that knows how to shape and tell news stories.
