Contractor Broadcast Engineering

Job Description

TERMS: One year part-time contract 

HOURS OF WORK: 3 days per week (Mon, Wed & Fri)

SALARY/RATE: Competitive depending on experience 

LOCATION: Central London , Flux office and client locations as required

REPORTS TO: Head of Engineering 


You will be working with a very small team to deliver remote workout sessions for the employees of a global tech company. 

You will be working at a Central London office with a remote fitness trainer who will be running through 30-minute workshops. Each session will be captured by 3 fixed PTZ cameras and a lapel mic, with pixel buds used for IEM's.

After each session, you will need to trim the start and end and upload to a shared drive. The studio will be pre-built with all camera operations and audio happening remotely.

Install and configure broadcast equipment

  • Technical testing for projects
  • Set-up a range of broadcast equipment & PPU’s, both on location and within the MCR
  • Configure audio & video routing and production LAN’s as required
  • Set-up and configure internet streaming hardware and software
  • Establish and maintain audio and video links between different units on events


Maintain broadcast equipment

  • Identify faults in equipment and attempt first maintenance
  • Contact suppliers for anything that can’t be fixed internally
  • Escalation of any faults with equipment
  • Apply engineering best practices and treat equipment and spaces with care 


Troubleshoot problems

  • Prioritising and fixing problems as they arise
  • Communicating issues with wider team
  • Applying troubleshooting best practices when fixing problems
  • Use various hardware and software tools available to find solutions


Technical development & enhancements of solutions

  • Researching new technologies
  • Suggesting improvements to current solutions & processes
  • Technical reporting as required
  • Testing new solutions & undertaking other internal projects as required


Communication with colleagues & suppliers

  • Communicating with freelancers around project specific needs
  • Communicating with internal team about engineering requests


  1. Knowledge of live broadcasting technology such as Sony, Blackmagic, ARRI & ROSS
  2. Knowledge of streaming technologies such as RTMP, UDP, SRT
  3. Highly proficient in Windows, Apple, and Linux operating systems
  4. Excellent IT skills & networking knowledge
  5. An understanding of analogue and digital electronic systems and the ability to apply digital and analogue theory to and from technical diagrams
  6. Fault-finding skills and the capacity to solve technical problems in a creative way
  7. A positive proactive approach, even in pressured situations
  8. Excellent attention to detail
  9. Good organisational skills and ability to juggle competing priorities
  10. Good teamworking skills, needs to work closely with production managers, sales, freelancers and clients
  11. Good written & verbal communication, with the ability to explain technical subjects in a non-technical way


  1. Experience with RedHat, Ubuntu & AWS/Cloud Architecture
  2. Experience with Caspar CG & vMix
  3. Knowledge of IP broadcast technologies such as NDI and Dante
  4. Knowledge of Streamdecks & Companion
  5. Knowledge of both Unicast and Multicast networking technologies
  6. Knowledge of web languages such as Javascript, NodeJS, HTML & CSS
  7. Experience in electronic engineering and using communication equipment
  8. Knowledge of live audio systems
  9. Proficiency with Adobe suite of tools
  10. Driving license
