Job Description

Studioworks has an exciting opportunity for a Studio Manager to oversee a brand new state of the art TV Studio planned to open in Autumn 2022 in Glasgow. The Studio Manager will lead BBC Studioworks’ new Studio which will be located in the iconic Kelvin Hall.  She/he will be the operational leader for the studio, will work closely with the Commercial Sales team to generate new and repeat sales, and will be the face to market for BBC Studioworks in Scotland.  With support from teams in London, she/he will be setting up and running not just a new TV studio but more so a new business. 

At BBC Studioworks we offer our clients world-class studios and post production spaces, equip them with the right technology and engage the most dedicated and talented people in the industry to help them bring their ideas to life. We work with ITV, SKY, BBC, Channel 4 and many others. We currently have sites at Elstree and Television Centre in White City and we’re looking to grow. Our London facilities are home to some of the nation’s most watched and loved television shows including Strictly Come Dancing, Saturday Night Takeaway, and Eastenders.

Role Responsibility

To efficiently, effectively, and safely operate the studio, such that the customer experience is first class, the studio is staffed in line with best practice, and all H&S processes are followed.

To manage the team at Kelvin Hall, including the recruitment and development of staff alongside the hiring of freelancers, agency workers and contractors, such that the studio is able to cost effectively provide all services including broadcast, scenic, logistics, electrical, hard and soft FM services.

To be responsible for the technical performance of the studio.

To work closely with Commercial Sales to drive utilisation of the studio by proactively representing BBC Studioworks within the Glasgow market and working with industry bodies to grow the production sector in Scotland.

To measure studio performance (via a P&L) and to provide updates on costs and revenue to the business as required, such that the studio stands the best possible chance of delivering its revenue and profit targets.

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a thorough understanding and extensive knowledge of the production process and technical requirements to manage a Studio facility. You’ll have proven experience of operating within a complex and commercial environment together with experience of leading and implementing change projects within a broadcast environment. You’ll have first class leadership skills, be a creative problem solver, and have the ability to forge effective and long-term working relationships with clients.
