Job Description

Evolutions’ quality control operators will primarily be focused on ensuring that broadcast master files are checked for audio and video parameters comparative to broadcaster and platform specifications, including full QC, 5-point spot checks, and automated software checks.

Expanding on that, the quality control operators will be required to use cross-department communication skills to collaborate with the wider operations team and the post production producers in order to deliver flexibly-timed and fast turnaround workflows.

You will need to be studious, keeping up to date with current technologies and the latest delivery specifications, and apply your knowledge with a controlled and analytical manner that ensures a consistent application of standards, and reliable results.

You will be expected to possess or develop an understanding of the company’s client profile to understand the editorial process, in order to offer dynamic and effective communication with the editorial creative departments.

You should display a drive to take ownership of project progress and relevant workflows and develop responsibility in supporting your colleagues progress as an effort to strengthen the team.

Fundamentally, you will need to have the technical skills to drive the software, the experience and temperament to manage your time and your time relative to others, and the responsibility and perception to consistently deliver excellent results.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Be at the forefront of QC technical and workflow development
  • Collaborate with the wider operations and post production producer teams to establish a highly   efficient integrated QC workflow
  • Establish and maintain an exceptional standard of work within and across the QC team
  • Ensure that work is consistently delivered to the highest standard and within dynamic schedules
  • Maintain healthy and trusted working relationships with clients and in-house teams

General Responsibilities:

  • Perform QC and QC-related task when on shift and required
  • Identify and advise on areas within the department that you believe require development to better suit the QC teams core responsibilities
  • Work closely with other in-house departments to share information and ensure the efficient running of equipment, workflows and schedules
  • Form a strong understanding of different client’s specific requirements to help deliver a varied but consistent high level of service
  • Be composed in pressured situations and be able to de-escalate and resolve issues, towards delivering to schedule
  • Develop communication and provide on-the-spot assistance to the in-house creative team
  • Be accountable for your part in upholding Evolutions’ core values of service and individual departmental policies and procedures
  • Uphold Evolutions’ data security measures and respect client’s confidentiality concerns
  • Ensure that workstations and facilities are maintained to the highest standard, and that faults and improvement suggestions are escalated the appropriate people

Personal Specification:

The right candidate will have experience in a technical operations role, with significant experience in quality control procedures and working knowledge of delivery guidelines and equipment. Their technical knowledge should align with a methodical drive for technical precision and a compassionate and dynamic work ethic.

Key Skill & Personal Requirements:

  • An advanced understanding of television QC practices including DPP, HDR, 4K & IMF formats
  • At least 3 years experience in a similar role
  • A proven ability to comprehend and navigate complex post production delivery workflows
  • Working experience with Avid Media Composer highly desirable but not essential
  • A strong knowledge of codecs, file formats and colour pipelines, with the understanding of correct and efficient methods of process
  • A diligent, organised-but-flexible approach to work is essential to comply with strict technical requirements and fluctuating deadlines
  • An ability to identify, prioritise and problem solve independently, while maintaining the integrity of a larger framework
  • Team player with professional and courteous communication skills, as the role requires frequent correspondence with internal colleagues and a wide network of external clients
  • Proactive & studious attitudes towards in-house workflow improvements
  • Analytical, with the ability to review situations and formulate pragmatic and sensible solutions
  • Effective project & time management skills
  • Flexibility around hours and shifting
